God Is Not Afraid

Thursday Thankful Moments
A Devotional Series
Week 1

Anyone feeling a little uncertain in 2020?

Anyone feeling like throwing something at me via your computer screen for using the term ‘uncertain’?

You know who isn’t uncertain, not now and not ever?

God. He knows all, sees all. Nothing escapes His notice. He’s all powerful and He’s a miracle working God. He knew what 2020 would look like, and He already knows what 2021 is going to look like.

Remember what I accomplished in antiquity. Truly I am God, I have no peer; I am God, and there is none like me, who announces the end from the beginning and reveals beforehand what has not yet occurred; who says, ‘My plan will be realized, I will accomplish what I desire;’

Isaiah 46:9-10 NET

This is the God we serve, the one and only, all knowing, all powerful creator of the universe and Savior of our souls. He cares about the sparrows and He cares about you. Yes, YOU!

He’s not afraid for tomorrow. But, how do we know this?

Because there is no fear in love. And God is love.

The person who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:8 NET

Recently my seven-year-old told me, quite convincingly, that a certain type of dinosaur still exists today. Apparently another seven-year-old (an expert on the subject, I might add) said so, and it didn’t matter what I said, my son would not believe me over this boy. I was frustrated, but also tired (moms, now is a good time to lift your coffee cups) so I let the subject drop. For the moment, anyway.

What does God feel when He tells us the truth or makes us promises only to have us not believe Him, not accept His promises? When we choose to live same-old same-old lives while He wants to give us more abundantly?

The Lord is exalted, indeed, he lives in heaven; he fills Zion with justice and fairness. He is your constant source of stability; he abundantly provides safety and great wisdom; he gives all this to those who fear him.

Isaiah 33:5,6 NET

These are promises He has given us, yet do we receive them? Do we choose faith or do we choose fear?

God wants us to seek Him, to know Him, to believe Him (not just in Him).

What kind of relationship can stand without trust? Believe me when I say God is working on me, showing me areas I have chosen fear over faith.

Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Hebrews 11:6 NET

You know what I love about this scripture from Hebrews? It leaves no room for what ifs or buts. Just simply, you want to please God? Believe Him, seek Him, put your faith in Him.

Yes, I’m thankful that He isn’t afraid. I’m thankful that He knows my tomorrow, and He knows yours, too. And I’m so thankful that we don’t have to live in fear. I encourage you, don’t carry you’re burdens. But cast them on Jesus (see 1 Peter 5:7).

Thank you for joining me for this first full, short and sweet, #ThursdayThankfulMoments devotional here on my blog. I hope you’ll come back next week and take a moment to be thankful. As Christians, there is a never ending list of things to give thanks for. As my dad likes to say, if you can’t find anything else, be thankful for salvation in Jesus.
